APPRENTICES
What is an Apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship is a paid profession in either a skilled trade or a craft. Apprentices are routinely trained by master trade and craftsmen – experts in their field – to learn the skills needed for specific jobs. The experts share their mastery and knowledge to ensure their apprentice becomes an expert too. An apprenticeship combines on-the-job training with related classroom instruction. Apprentices who successfully complete all the prescribed training and hours become certified skilled trade or craft workers.
Why choose a Skilled Trade?
By learning a specific skill set, tradesmen and craftsmen can secure for themselves a profitable foundation for their future. Workers who complete apprenticeship programs can expect good jobs with good pay. There are numerous opportunities available for certified trade and craftsmen after certification. The statistics show that graduates from apprenticeship programs earn more money, get better jobs, and are promoted faster than trade and craftsmen without apprenticeship training – in short, the training works!
What apprenticeship means for you!
An apprenticeship allows you to earn a living while you learn your craft. Apprentices are full-time employees (40-hours per week) that benefit from an earn-while-you-learn environment. The more skills they learn, the greater potential to earn. Apprentices can usually expect to be paid 50 percent of a journeyman’s wages. Wages typically increase at regular intervals (every 6 months) as required skills increase. At the successful completion of the term of apprenticeship, apprentices become journeymen (professional trade and craftsmen) and in turn earn full pay for their skills.
